Demetrius Pampouktsis has worn a lot of hats over the years: cook, waiter, restaurant manager, bartender, carpenter, mason, mechanic, barista, pizzaboy... the list goes on. He currently works as an engineer in Haverford, PA, but his true passion is being in the mountains. Demetrius will be talking about his trip to South America, and having to recognize he couldn’t complete the objective.
Demetrius, what is your story swap presentation about?
A climbing/mountaineering trip I took last December/January to climb Pico de Orizaba and our attempt to climb the tallest mountain outside of Asia called Aconcagua in Venezuela.
How did you get introduced to mountaineering when did you start getting really into it?
I started getting into mountaineering when I connected with an old friend who was going to out Colorado. I joined him and we climbed a couple 14ers. I was hooked. I incorporated rock/ice climbing a few years after to further my mountaineering skill set. Because of the easier accessibility of rock climbing, I've been focusing on that lately.
What kind of other outdoor recreation activities do you like to participate in?
Trail running, and I’m also getting into mountain biking.
What are your future goals or big objectives?
I'd like to climb Ama Dablam next year in the Himalayas.
